A good Madrid shopping guide is something that can never be missing and is always useful. From Elisa & Eduardo Rivera we show you our favorite places in the capital and we claim the charm of its streets, the historical value of its monuments and the friendly nature of its inhabitants, which make this city as magical as it is.

It is also our home, where ten of our twelve stores are located. That is why we have thought of those who come on vacation or shopping in Madrid , recommending plans for the areas of our two most central stores: Barrio de las Letras and Gran Vía.

Our teams from Plaza del Ángel and Calle Clavel have told us about some of their favorite places. Thanks to them we share with you a guide to the best places to eat, visit and enjoy the most authentic Madrid. Join us!

Shopping Madrid in the Barrio de las Letras: Quarter of Spanish literature.

This neighborhood is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in all of Madrid thanks to the great cultural richness of many of its streets. If you go through any of these you will discover its most special corners and multiple stories that will surprise you. Here are some of the places that Elena and her team at Elisa & Eduardo Rivera Plaza del Ángel have recommended to us.

The best places to eat in the Barrio de las Letras:

  • Casa Labra: one of the best bars in old Madrid . With tradition, tradition and a lot of history (did you know that the Socialist Party was founded here?) Savor their specialties such as cod, oxtail or some good croquettes. A typical place for the young and not so young that you cannot miss on a day of shopping in central Madrid! You will find it in Tetuán 12.

  • Casa Lhardy: Casa Lhardy is an eminence. Its famous stew will leave you wanting to try much more. It is one of the best places to enjoy Madrid's gastronomy and accumulates many anecdotes given its age.

Great personalities from the world of politics and society have passed through its halls. Queen Elizabeth II was staying with some of her suitors in Lhardy. In particular, she used one of the rooms in this house, the Japanese room, with which she fell in love. Milagros, the owner of Lhardy will tell you this and many other stories. Book in this fantastic site that is only 4 minutes walk from our store in Plaza del Ángel , in Carrera de San Jerónimo number 8.

  • Trattoria Sant Arcangelo: if your palate is more for pasta and sweet Italian delicacies , you cannot miss this charming restaurant, perfect for a good meal with friends or a romantic date. We recommend its star dish: the truffle carpaccio and its mythical dessert, the tiramisu. Perfect to eat after a busy day of shopping. You will find it at Calle de Moreto, 15, very close to Paseo del Prado.

What to visit in the Barrio de las Letras?

The Barrio de las Letras is courted within its limits by the three most important museums in Madrid and, furthermore, its streets were the home of many renowned writers in our literary history. So it is full of History and culture.

  • Lope de Vega Museum and the old House of Cervantes. We are located in the heart of C/ Cervantes. It is one of the most historic streets in all of Madrid because we come across two key points in the history of literature, the former Casa de Lope de Vega (now a museum) and very close to the old Casa de Miguel de Cervantes. Author of one of the most famous Spanish works in the world: Don Quixote. Currently only one of them remains, many of the houses ended up destroyed over the years. As good references to Spanish literature, they immerse us fully in the Golden Age and take us much deeper into historic Madrid.

  • Botanical Garden: In the heart of the capital is located one of the most special corners of Madrid. The Royal Botanical Garden (it was founded by Fernando VI but it was Carlos III who placed it in its current place) houses 5,000 species of trees, plants and flowers from all over the world. You can visit it at any season of the year and it is a neighbor of the Prado Museum.

Since we are going to walk through the most central Madrid , we recommend that you wear comfortable shoes because the exhibitions at the Prado Museum , Thyssen Museum or the Reina Sofía will make time freeze and you will spend hours and hours touring all its galleries in front of works by Goya , Kandinsky or Picasso.

Take the opportunity to visit the exhibition Reencuentro en el Prado: it brings together in the same space, for the first time, some of the most emblematic works of the art gallery. And while you're here, take a look at "Guests" as well. An exhibition that vindicates the role of women, noting that they were uncomfortable guests in the artistic scene in which they lived. You have until March 14 to get closer.

After visiting all these wonderful works you can rest in one of the most iconic terraces in all of Madrid. We are referring to the Círculo de Bellas Artes, where you can have a drink on its rooftop enjoying great views of the city, do not leave without taking some photos!

Let's continue discovering the neighborhood, because it's worth getting lost in its streets to discover the innumerable decoration shops in Madrid and some of the best galleries it houses. If you are looking for a special piece, take a look at Modernario , Bakelita or Decodelia or their neighboring sisters who celebrate like nobody else the big week of this neighborhood in Decoration , an event that adorns the facades of shops and takes to the streets the stalls of shops and exclusive galleries.

And to impregnate yourself with a 100% Spanish spirit and enjoy its rich diversity, please take a moment during your visit to look around REAL FÁBRICA, a place where the tradition of the entire Spanish map is represented in typical objects, ceramics and gastronomy. It is on Calle Cervantes and is guarded by a charming straw donkey.

Next stop: shopping along Gran Vía and Chueca

We are going to leave the neighborhood to introduce you to our store on Clavel street where you will meet the Moíses team, but first of all we will do it by going through the new sensation in Madrid: the Four Seasons Hotel in Madrid. One of the most luxurious hotels in all of Madrid, of which only the façade, imposing and full of details, has been respected.

For many years this building was the headquarters of the four most important banks of that time: Banco Hispano, Central, Zaragozano and Banesto, finally becoming the headquarters of Banco Santander . A curious fact: in the upper part of it lived the former patriarch of the Botín clan: Don Emilio Botín, father. A large house in the heart of Madrid, who was he, right?

We stay at kilometer 0, accompanied by our kindest and most traditional symbol, The bear and the strawberry tree, watched over by our beloved Andalusian Tío Pepe , who expects you to take a picture with him, yes or yes!

Next stop: shopping on Gran Vía and Chueca.

They are two of the busiest areas in all of Madrid and also the famous ones: Gran Vía, the most emblematic street, and Chueca, the most cosmopolitan neighborhood. We are going to go down the Gran Vía from the Carrión building . Put like that, neither fu nor fa. But if we tell you the Schweppes de Callao building, then yes. You will witness many selfies looking for its striking colored sign.

Don't lose sight of the facades of the recently renovated hotels on the Gran Vía, but stop at what was one of the first skyscrapers in Madrid, the Telefónica building. From here the entire telephone network in Spain was connected and it is the scene of one of the most famous Netflix series in recent years, Las Chicas del Cable.

Eat or have a drink in Gran Vía:

  • The Chicote Museum: It is one of the oldest bars-restaurants in Madrid where Perico Chicote , a former bartender at the Hotel Palace, created the first concept known as a cocktail bar located in those days in the heart of the capital. Important Hollywood figures such as Ava Gardner or Shopia Loren have passed through it. If the 1950s and the seedier Madrid appeal to you, take a look at Paco León's series, ARDE MADRID!

  • Bakery-Bar Celicioso : A universe of sweets where the red velvet and carrot cupcakes stand out. Terrific! And as a pastry shop, it is the perfect option for a meeting with small children or even with friends. Also, for those who love coffee, their cappucino is one of the best. We encourage you to go! You will find it in Hortaleza nº 3.

  • Terraza la Tita Rivera: Galician par excellence of rabid news. Enjoy a very varied menu of local products and fantastic tapas, but remember to book because the tita is very, very much in demand. You will find it on Calle Pérez Galdós.

Elisa & Eduardo Rivera: Shopping along Gran Vía.

We are in the middle of Clavel street, on the corner with Reina street, where you can see one of our older stores . In a beautiful elevated location, with impressive columns and a lamp where the essence of the old shops on the Gran Vía is maintained, with its beautiful moldings and wooden floors, you can visit us and discover the women's and men's collections.
